First institution meeting on MEDIS project

logo medis v1When the intellectual products of the project are ready, it is time for meetings with institutions, not only for promoting the products and the project, but also for joint actions for its widespread implementation..
On November 15th, 2019, at the UN High Commission for Refugees for Bulgaria in Sofia, a meeting was held between Emilia van Harten and Iva Lazarova, representatives of the commission and Stanislav Georgiev, a representative of the Regional Educational Office Sofia and Ivo Dimitrov from Know and Can Association. The meeting presented in detail the project, where and how its results are already being implemented.

In a constructive discussion, additional possibilities for its implementation were sought. One useful idea is translating the flyer for the project with educational opportunities offered in Bulgaria in Arabic and distributing it in refugee centers. Many children do not even reach the threshold of schools there, while as a whole, the education system is prepared to accept them. The barriers to this are different - cultural, linguistic, domestic.

The project will also be presented at a regional conference of the Commissars in February 2020, focusing on the early integration of refugees into the education systems in the first European countries where they enter. These practices can be used both in traditional educational institutions and in the evening and shift forms experienced by adult learners who face the same language problems and need support.

The manual will be accessible for use in all languages used in the project in all libraries in the refugee centers for temporary accommodation and will be able to be used both by the refugee workers there and by themselves.
The Commissariat itself is committed to organizing stakeholder training in early 2020, which will greatly increase the potential benefits of the project.
