Name: Inter-Cultural Dimension for European Active Citizenship

Considered the alarmingly low turnout rate in EU elections in some countries where voting is not compulsory and the democratic deficit it causes across Europe, the present project aims to restore electoral faith among EU citizens.

It will address the four main causes for low electoral participation found in collaboration with the project partners:

  • lack of interest and of knowledge of the democratic workings of the E
  • mistrust towards EU institutions
  • lack of sense of belonging to Europe.

The project aim is related to promotion of the concept of democracy in Europe and the importance of active participation as European citizens.

The main project idea is to present to the wide public information on the democratic workings of the EU, the different modes of civic participation (e.g. voting), how the European Parliament works and how its electoral processes influence the other EU institutions and the EU functioning as a whole.

The project results could be summarized as follows:

  • Stronger insights into the current EU issues related to everyday life
  • Greater openness towards intercultural dimensions and diversity
  • Increased knowledge of democratic tools and influence over e.g. the EP
  • Increased knowledge about European dimensions and policies
  • Greater encouragement of civic participation through creative format of the event
  • Greater dissemination of the results through artistic expression
